Hello! Long time no talk! I took a break from Red Heels & Banana Peels, and Baby V’s daddy and I started a new business. Whew, life has been crazy! It kind of feels like we had another baby, not much time to think about anything other than our “business baby”, So like any proud new mother take a look…here is a link to our new ”baby” Real Foods For Life…check it out. More about RFFL later, as it is such a huge part of who we are.
On to the blog…
I enjoyed the little bit of writing I did for Red Heels and Banana Peels, and I am looking forward to getting back to it. Writing is much cheaper than therapy, and at this point it’s one or the other!
As for the DIY and Local Asheville Events that were previously on the blog…
Well, have you met Pinterest? And the bazillion amazing bloggers who have time to do amazing DIY Projects…(I just do not have that time). Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not giving up my crack, I mean my Pinterest I will still be pinning lots of great things and doing a few of my favorites when I have time. If I find something I love, I will share the link to the amazing blogger who posted it, whose explanation and pictures will be much better than mine. The Red Heels and Banana Peels Pinterest page is gone, and is now under Real Foods For Life. Again, I just do not have time to keep up more than one Pinterest Page…there are so many pins, and so little time! So be sure to follow me on Pinterest under Real Foods For Life.
I feel the same way about the Local Asheville Events…we live in an amazing town and it is very time consuming to keep up with everything that happens here. Thankfully there are wonderful local websites and blogs that keep up with events and kid friendly activities much better than I can. If I find something great I will put it on my Facebook page. Yes, the Red Heels and Banana Peels Facebook page is in the process of going away also, so it will be under my personal Jennifer Henry Facebook page.
So, if I do not have a DIY or Local Events Page what am I doing…well, I am cutting the clutter and I am going to do what I enjoy, I am going to write.
Sometimes we have to step back, reevaluate where we are, what we are doing, and why we are doing it. It is healthy, it is good, it is life giving. Taking this step back has allowed me to see what I was doing, just for the sake of doing, and what I was doing that I actually enjoyed. There is a BIG difference!
This has led to one of my goals for the year…to simplify my life, and remove the unnecessary clutter so I can make room for the life I want. Pretty sure not one single area has been untouched by the unclutter storm of January 2013, even my eyebrows are thinner Once the unclutter storm got started, it was hard to stop. The amazing freedom I felt from letting go was a little addictive.
The crazy thing is, I do not miss any of the “stuff”. I am not just talking physical nick knack you bought at a garage sale kind of stuff, I am talking about it all…yes, clothes, and nick knacks but also random social media stuff, blog stuff, saying “yes” to stuff I really do not have time for just to please someone else stuff, finances(how many channels do you really need), mental baggage, trying to be super mom – hosting the most fabulous kids birthday party or kids (you fill in the blank), business(letting go of what does not work), having the latest and greatest - whatever…the list goes on. Yes, maybe I could keep it all, and do it all, but I would be utterly exhausted and be spread so thin that none of it would be done with excellence and I would not be in the moment to enjoy any of it because I would already be on to the next thing in my mind, and what/who does having it all really profit anyway?(have you see the movie “The Joneses”) Whew!!!
Life lessons continue to show me that the more I let go of, (whether by choice, necessity or force) the more I realise I do not need any of what I let go of, I am actually better without it.
So now, I am choosing to stop going through the motions just to keep up with the Joneses, and it’s hard because the Joneses have a big family and someone seems to show up everywhere I go…the park, the grocery store, online, driving next to me, a kids birthday party. Really, they breed like rabbits. Anyway, I am done, I am not doing it, I am cutting the Joneses out. The fake “I have it all together” and ”I am happy”, gone, you are not real. So many mom’s feel like they “just can’t do it all” well, I am changing that phrase to “I just will not do it all” My family is to important to me to continue to try to “do it all”.
I am cutting the quantity and choosing the quality so that I can enjoy the people and the things that make me happy. I know keeping the clutter out will be a journey, but one I am willing to take on.
To the Joneses…If you are ready for a change, there is always room for you on our side of the fence. It is much easier to breath over here and our grass really is greener, probably because we water it ourselves and actually enjoy getting a little dirty in the process. If you are up for it, jump over.
Red Heels Dare #5…Unclutter! What areas are you willing to unclutter so that there is room for what really makes you happy?
I hope you will stay tuned and continue with me on this journey!
